Location, location, location…
This is the mantra of every good real estate agent in the world. They will tell you that it’s all about location when it comes to buying and especially selling.
There is undoubtedly a spiritual parallel. Although God is omnipresent (everywhere simultaneously), His plan and purpose for us are not. In other words, there are specific places where God has ordained to work in particular ways in our lives, and we must be there to participate in His plan fully. Henry Blackaby pointed followers of Christ in this direction years ago. His admonishment to “find out where God is working and join Him in His work” is advice well taken.
For years I have used the example of taking a shower. I cannot stand outside the shower and expect the water to come to me. I would remain both dry and dirty! In order to shower successfully, I must move my body to where the water is. In the same way, we often expect God to come to us, bless the work we have begun, and adjust to our timetable or preferences. The truth is, most often, we will find ourselves living life in the flesh and without the blessing or power of God. A very sad existence indeed.
This was never clearer to Jane and me than on the walk across America. We had prayed for a year before the walk that God would set divine appointments all along our path. We prayed that He would order our steps so that we would intersect the paths of others at precisely the right time to share the gospel with the lost and encourage those who needed it. We saw it happen hundreds of times. Sometimes it came down to a train holding us up for a few minutes or not walking against a traffic signal. But being in exactly the right place at the right time produced hundreds of opportunities to live in the center of God’s best and point others to the Savior.
Today, why not make it a priority to get to exactly the right place? Listen carefully to His voice. Pay attention to the signs. Watch for His guidance, even if it is not what you expected, and go where He says to go. Once there, you will see God open the windows of heaven and “shower” you with His perfect will and abundant life.
